spectrUM is moving. We will reopen at 812 Toole Avenue in 2017.

We have exciting news to share with you.

This past year, spectrUM served more than 55,000 Montanans, a record number. In the same period, we brought in a number of private and federal grants that now make it possible for us to expand to a larger space that will better meet our community's growing demand for spectrUM's signature hands-on science experiences.

An ideal opportunity arose that required a quick decision, and after careful consideration, spectrUM's advisory board, the University of Montana leadership, the Board of Regents, and the spectrUM team have decided to move our museum to an exciting new location.  We want you to know about our plans to relocate to 812 Toole Avenue in 2017.

What does this mean for you?

  • Unforgettable, custom-built facility with 2000 additional square feet
  • New, playful exhibits, plus more room for old favorites
  • Themed nooks for cozy, small-group learning
  • Expanded classroom space for field trips and birthdays parties
  • Ample parking

We are a small team, and in order to make the magic happen, we will need to close our museum doors for a few months.  The last day of public hours at our downtown location will be on Friday, September 16th, 2016. Come join us in saying goodbye to our downtown space with an ice cream social from 3 to 6 pm.  We plan to re-open in 2017.

If you are a member of spectrUM, you will receive an additional month on your membership for every month we are closed, and your ASTC passport benefits will remain active.  And if you travel to visit another museum, be sure to visit our pop-up exhibit at Missoula International Airport.

Please check Facebook and our website for details about spectrUM events at other venues while we are closed.

We greatly appreciate your support of the spectrUM Discovery Area and look forward to sharing this new chapter with you.  Please call Director Holly Truitt or STEM Education Program Manager Jessie Herbert at 243-4828 if you have any questions.

As always, thank you for your support,

Holly, Jessie, and the spectrUM Team
