Science of Me

The 2019 Science of Me program invites children to explore the biological systems that make humans fundamentally alike and the elements that interact to create a unique individual. Through engaging hands-on exploration, students discover how food becomes our body's fuel, where oxygen goes when we breathe it, how our brains interpret the world, and what role DNA plays in making us who we are.

GSK Science in the Summer™ is a is a free science education program sponsored by GSK that helps elementary school children “grow into science.” GSK Science in the Summer™ partners with science centers/museums and community-based organizations – including schools, libraries, homeless shelters, camps, homeschool groups, Boys and Girls Clubs and Native American reservations – to bring hands-on science courses to students.

GSK Science in the Summer™ launched in the Greater Philadelphia Area 30 years ago to engage kids in science at an early age. Since its inception, GSK Science in the Summer™ has reached more than 150,000 students in Philadelphia, North Carolina and Washington, D.C./Baltimore, and launched a national pilot program to reach even more students in 2015. The national program is sponsored by GSK and hosted by leading museums and sciences centers across the country.

GSK Science in the Summer™ teaches elementary students the core principles of science and seeks to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) learning through fun, engaging activities. The program also works to equalize educational opportunities and mitigate the effects of summer learning loss.
