In partnership with STEM and education leaders on the Flathead Indian Reservation, the spectrUM Discovery Area operates a Science Learning Tent at the annual Arlee Celebration and Elmo Standing Arrow powwows. The tent features interactive exhibits from spectrUM's museum and hands-on activities guided by local and native role models in STEM and higher education.

The Science Learning Tent is staffed by local "near-peer" high school students and college interns with guided demonstrations by STEM leaders and role models from the Flathead Reservation and from UM.

The annual Arlee Celebration powwow serves as a cultural highlight for the three tribes on the reservation, as well as for visitors from around the country. The Science Learning Tent was supported in its first year by the Alford P Sloan Foundation. The Tent was funded in its second year by the Noyce Foundation, which awarded spectrUM honorable mention in its Bright Lights Community Awards Competition in recognition of this innovative, community-based project.

SciNation on the Flathead Reservation steers spectrUM’s engagement at the Arlee Celebration, as well as on the reservation year-round. SciNation is a collaborative of STEM and education advocates from the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribe's Natural Resources Department, Tribal Education Department, Tribal Health Department, Boys and Girls Club of the Flathead Reservation, and more.
